As a result of this, I developed “Embody your voice” and “Master your Rhythm“ ; 2 training programs that help singers improve their rhythmical skills and let your body help you with vocal technique and timing.

About Martie

Graduated in Rotterdam bachelor and master in Jazz, studying and performing during 7 years in Brazil, I incorporated all kinds of Brazilian music.

During my bachelor’s and master’s studies in jazz at Codarts/Fontys, I fell in love with Brazilian music and poetry and was challenged by its complex rhythmics. Visiting Brazil for the first time in 2009, to my big surprise TV Globo-Ceará invited me to record a 1,5 hour music special, and I performed in several festivals in the country. This led me to live and work for 7 years as a vocalist and composer in Rio de Janeiro, where I immersed myself in the Brazilian music culture and released a Brazilian album with producer Claudio Dauelsberg. During these years I followed masterclasses and courses in percussion, learned rhythms from the North East of Brazil, carimbo, samba and more. I had diction coaching to perfect my pronunciation of Brazilian Portuguese, took dance and acting classes, and studied the method ‘O passo’ by Lucas Ciavatta. This helped me embody the complex Brazilian rhythmical patterns, which greatly improved my timing, technique and stage performance.

In all these years I collected knowledge in Brazil in all kinds of ways, and I had the privilege to work with great teachers and artists in different areas. I tried to incorporate things that aren’t yet accessible for singers outside of Brazil.
